A journey through the wild heart of Sri Lanka from the leopard trails of Wilpattu to the rainforest chorus of Sinharaja, the whale-rich waters of Mirissa, and the golden savannahs of Yala and Udawalawe. Arrival and Coastal Rest Stop (Chilaw)

Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB), meet your private driver and transfer north to Chilaw (approx.
1.5 hours). This quiet coastal town offers a gentle start to your adventure. Spend the afternoon relaxing after your flight or
take your camera for a golden-hour walk along the beach, fishermen’s boats, coconut palms, and sunset reflections make
perfect first captures.

Into the Wild: Wilpattu National Park

After breakfast, journey inland to Wilpattu National Park (approx. 2 hours). Known for its “Willus” natural sand-rimmed
lakes — Wilpattu’s mosaic of forest and open glades is perfect for tracking wildlife. This afternoon, enjoy your first Jeep
Safari (3:00 PM – 6:00 PM). Focus on waterholes where elephants drink and leopards emerge in the fading light.

The Realm of Leopards and Sloth Bears

Rise early for a Full-Day Safari (6:00 AM – 6:00 PM) in Wilpattu. This is Sri Lanka’s largest and most atmospheric park,
where you’ll spend long hours following pugmarks, scanning the tracks for movement, and waiting by the still Willus for
wildlife to appear. With patience and luck, today offers some of the best chances to photograph Sri Lankan Leopards and
Sloth Bears in their natural domain.

The Elephant Gathering & Ancient Ruins

After breakfast, travel eastward to the Cultural Triangle (approx. 3 hours). In the afternoon, venture into Minneriya or
Kaudulla National Park, depending on the season, to witness The Gathering, where herds of elephants converge around
vast reservoirs, a dream scene for long-lens wildlife photography.

Sunrise and Ancient Civilizations

Start the day early with a sunrise climb up Pidurangala Rock, where you’ll capture the first light spilling over the iconic
Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Later, visit the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site teeming with ruins
and resident troops of Toque Macaques and Gray Langurs, ideal for behavioral and portrait photography.

Kandy and the Hill Country Journey

After breakfast, drive to Kandy (approx. 3 hours). Visit the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, a paradise for macro
photography, orchids, butterflies, and colorful birdlife thrive here. In the late afternoon, continue your journey up into the
Hill Country, either by scenic drive or train (Kandy to Nanu Oya), where cool air and mist welcome you to tea country.

Horton Plains: Above the Clouds

At dawn, set out for Horton Plains National Park (6:00 AM). Photograph World’s End, where the plateau drops
dramatically into mist, and capture the unique montane flora and highland birds that thrive here. Return by midday and
spend the afternoon among tea estates, shooting portraits of local pickers or landscapes layered with emerald hills.

Journey to Sinharaja Rainforest

Descend from the misty hills toward the island’s southwestern rainforest (approx. 6 hours). Check in near Sinharaja, Sri
Lanka’s last primary rainforest. In the late afternoon, explore the buffer zone for macro photography, frogs, insects, and
tropical plants glisten under the soft post-rain light.

Into the Heart of Sinharaja

Spend a full day trekking with a local naturalist through the Sinharaja World Heritage Forest. The dense canopy filters
sunlight beautifully, perfect for low-light forest photography. Focus on endemic bird flocks like the Sri Lanka Blue
Magpie, Red-faced Malkoha, and Orange-billed Babbler, along with rare reptiles and amphibians.

South Coast Transition

After breakfast, journey from the forest to the coast (approx. 3 hours). Arrive in Mirissa, where the ocean breeze replaces
the rainforest hum. Spend your afternoon cleaning camera gear, capturing sunset reflections, or practicing low-light
coastal shots.

Ocean Giants of Mirissa

Set sail before sunrise for a Whale Watching Expedition (6:30 AM – 11:30 AM). Photograph Blue Whales, Sperm
Whales, and Spinner Dolphins from your vessel, one of the few places on earth where these giants pass so close to shore.
In the afternoon, transfer east to Yala (approx. 3 hours).

Leopard Country: Yala National Park

A full-day safari (6:00 AM – 6:00 PM) awaits in Yala National Park, the island’s most iconic wildlife destination. The
park’s light changes beautifully through the day, offering opportunities for golden-hour leopard portraits, dust trails, and
waterhole reflections. Expect to encounter elephants, spotted deer, peacocks, and mugger crocodiles in stunning savannah
settings.

Wetlands & Elephant Herds

After an early breakfast, enjoy a morning safari in Bundala National Park (6:00 AM – 10:00 AM) a Ramsar wetland
teeming with migratory birds, from pelicans and storks to flamingos (seasonal). In the afternoon, drive to Udawalawe
(approx. 2 hours) for an evening safari,perfect for low-angle, golden-hour shots of elephants by the reservoir.

Final Safari & Southern Heritage

Begin your final morning safari in Udawalawe (6:00 AM – 10:00 AM), focusing on intimate elephant portraits and herd
dynamics. Around midday, drive west toward Galle Fort (approx. 3 hours), pausing for lunch en route. Capture the
colonial ramparts and lighthouse at sunset, before continuing to Negombo (approx. 3 hours) for your final night.

Departure

If time allows, make an early visit to Negombo Fish Market, where the morning light falls beautifully across nets,
fishermen, and colorful boats, a perfect final shoot. Later, transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) for your
onward flight.
